Westbury Rangers A defeated Sherston Town 3-2 in midweek, thanks to a late penalty form top scorer Marc Lanfear. Ed Wilkins had put Sherston ahead only for Pete Ayton to level with Rangers first penalty of the night. Antony Vizard regained the lead for Sherston before Rangers rallied again with Alex Lustkus making it 2-2. With time running out Rangers were awarded a hotly disputed penalty, which saw Lanfear keep his nerve as he tucked the ball away to give Rangers both points.

Premier Division Report by Mr. M Schneider - Publications Secretary (Chippenham Sunday League)
Winsley went down 2-1 away to Westbury Rangers A, who left it late before taking the two points, Gary Higdon deflected Marc Lanfear’s shot past his own keeper to put Rangers 1 up. Winsley’s 16 year old Jamie Higdon who was playing his first full 90 minutes for a year following knee surgery went up front to save his legs as he had a game in the afternoon netted for the villagers to tie the scores. Rangers Lewis Porter made a couple of excellent stops to keep it all square, one saw deny Trowbridge Town team mate Chris Tricker who tried to lob him from 30 yards and another that saw him at full stretch to deny Jamie Higdon a second. Rangers substitute Dale Rowland missed a sitter to give his team the lead but his blushes were spared by Paul Beavers who knocked the ball home after a goalmouth scramble in the 89th minute to give Rangers their win.

Premier Division Report by Mr. M Schneider - Publications Secretary (Chippenham Sunday League)
Westbury Rangers A may have surrendered their champions crown but they are still in the race for the runners up spot along with Biddestone Social whose game with Dog & Fox Ashley was postponed as both teams were unable to raise a team for their meeting at Cuttle Lane. Rangers had to come from behind twice to beat Maud Heath Sports 3-2 but the game turned when the Sports had Adie Simpkins and then Chris king sent off. Graham Deans opener for Maud Heath was wiped out by Marc Lanfear. Ollie Fenwick regained the lead for Maud Heath but Rangers came back to level again with Pete Ayton’s brilliant free kick which was also Rangers 100th goal of the season. After both Simpkins and Kings were dismissed Lanfear’s second of the game won it for Rangers. |

An under strength Westbury capitulated to a Corsham side who were high on success and full of confidence on Thursday night at Meadow Lane. The defeat effectively means that Corsham, with all due respect to Biddestone, will now be the new Chippenham Sunday League Premier Division Champions.
Westbury Rangers FC would like to be the first to congratulate Corsham on their fine achievement over the last 5 years.
The only sourness on the night was the venom with which some of the Corsham Town supporters launched abuse at the Rangers team and officials during the match. To his credit, the Corsham manager asked them for some decorum and they duly obliged.
The match itself was hard fought and the visitors bossed the first half and took a 2-0 advantage into the second period after goals from Scott Lye and Russell Gibbings had put them in charge.
Rangers were not going to give up their crown without a fight and played the better football in the second 45 minutes and were the better team but in spite of creating the chances they only had Paul Beavers deflected effort to show for their endeavor, which in the end wasn’t enough as with defeat went Rangers chance of becoming the first team since Cooper Avon Rangers to claim back to back titles.

Westbury Rangers A defeated Bradford News 2-1 to close the gap on second placed Biddestone 4 points and with 2 games in hand they have a possible chance of catching them before the season ends. Bradford News almost broke the deadlock on 7 minutes when Russell Francis headed against the bar but they found themselves trailing 1-0 second later when Rangers broke away and Marc Lanfear tucked the ball away to make it 1-0 to the defending champions. Paul Smith volleyed home second for Rangers in the 70th minute even though Gavin Targett pulled one back for the newsmen with 8 minutes remaining it was enough to save the Bradford battlers from suffering their 12th defeat of the season.

Westbury Rangers A eased past a makeshift Dog & Fox Ashley side who used two goalkeepers in their 7-2 defeat, both Gary Epps and Nick Gant featured in their first game of the campaign and were called into action at the eleventh hour, otherwise the Dog would have had to postpone the game. Marc Lanfear led the scoring for Rangers with a hat trick, Pete Ayton, Ross Parker, Sam Tucker and Paul Smith all hit singles. Steve Roddy and Steve Latham bagged the Dog’s consolation goals.

Premier Division Report by Mr. M Schneider - Publications Secretary (Chippenham Sunday League)
Biddestone Social have emerged at the team most likely to catch Corsham Centre at the top of the Auto Business Solutions Ltd, Chippenham League Premier Division after they defeated defending champions Westbury Rangers A 2-1. A depleted Biddestone side were forced into playing manager John O’Meara between the sticks after regular keeper Kevin Reed broke a couple of fingers in midweek. O’Meara who had never played in goal before proceeded to have a fine match but his life was made easier by a Rangers sides who never really got going until the second half, by that time they were trailing 2-0 to goals from Jamie Lyons who made the most of a Lewis Porter error after 3 minutes and John Lock who headed home Graham Learmouth’s cross in the 23rd minute. Marc Lanfear pulled one back for Rangers on 64 minutes and although Rangers battered Biddestone looking for an equaliser their back four held out for a valuable victory that sees them close the gap on the leaders to 6 points.
