TWO victories in four days has put Westbury Rangers B in with a good chance of finishing their campaign in the top half of the table.

Rangers were in action on Thursday night and picked up a 2-1 win over The Crown, with Neil Gordon and Gary Tugwell scoring for Dave Griffin's side and John Oram replying.

On Sunday Rangers hosted Pack Horse Rangers who they defeated 1-0, but had it not been for the heroics of the visitors' goalkeeper Del Llewellyn the winning margin would have been greater.

Liam Griffiths drilled home a stunning half volley on 23 minutes to give Rangers the points but minutes after Griffiths crashed home what proved to be the winner Dale Rowland missed a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0.

Rob Youens hit the post for Westbury after 32 minutes and although they dominated the remainder of the first half they couldn't find the way past Llewellyn again.

The second period saw the impressive goalkeeper produce great saves to keep out shots from Rowland and Ashley Easton and Youens missed a chance to add a second when he headed straight at the visitors' shot stopper who was saved by the woodwork late on when after a succession of corners the ball fell to Ross Pugh who smacked his shot against the post.

Pack Horse had a chance to score an equaliser late on but failed to take it as Westbury held out for their 1-0 win.

Westbury Rangers B 2, Crown FC 1

DEVIZES-based Crown FC blew their chance of finishing in fourth spot in Division Three when they were beaten at Meadow Lane by Dave Griffin's Westbury Rangers B who despite having most of the play only managed to wrap up a 2-1 success.

Both teams were missing a few of their regulars but they were just grateful that the rain that threatened the fixture stayed away long enough for it to be completed.

Rangers took the lead in the eighth minute when a free kick from Simon Higgins free kick was met by Matty Mead, whose header looked goal bound until the ball was hooked off the line. The clearance fell to Neil Gordon who turned the ball back into the net.

Rangers had to wait until the 55th minute before they added a second as following a great cross from Liam Griffith, Gary Tugwell was on hand to knock home his fire goal of the season to give the hosts a two goal advantage.

The Crown were thrown a lifeline after 68 minutes when Ashley Easton deflected a John Oram shot into his own net but although Mark Adamson's side had chances to fashion an equaliser they were unable to find the net again and they left Westbury feeling a little dejected as they were hoping that their final game of what had been a very good season might have brought them their 13th win.

But they will be more than happy with a fifth place finish considering they started the campaign with two defeats.

BIDDESTONE White Horse remain in second spot ahead of their winner-takes-all clash against third placed Pheasant FC.

Matt Unwin took his Biddestone White Horse side to Meadow Lane where they were entertained by Dave Griffin's Westbury Rangers B side who failed to score for a second successive match but they had their chances, with Sam Young going closest for them.

Biddestone White Horse claimed a 1-0 success, with Luke White scoring the only goal of the game in the second period when he fired home the rebound after his initial shot had been cleared off the line by Dave Jones and found a way past replacement goalkeeper Kevin Balchin.

Rangers missed the injured Dale Rowland but they suffered a further blow when Ashley Easton was carried off with possible ligament damage to his ankle.

Biddestone White Horse, who played with some bite for the first time for a while, could still top the table but they have a better chance of finishing in second spot as they hold a one point lead over the Pheasant ahead of their all important battle. If Biddestone beat Oli Selman's side it will guarantee them one of the two automatic places.

Bore draw for Westbury Rangers B and Bromham

WESTBURY Rangers B and Bromham will believe they wasted 90 minutes after last night's Third Division match at Meadow Lane failed to produce a winner or any goals.

The teams fought out a dire game of football that saw both defences on top as both sides had to use stand-in goalkeepers.

Rangers were forced to call on the services of Nick Mead while Bromham's manager Ady Kember had to take over the shot-stopper's role for the evening.

Neither side could land a knockout blow and between them only generated one worthwhile shot on goal and that came in the 80th minute when Bromham's Danny Powell unleashed a blistering drive that was brilliantly saved by Nick Mead.

Rangers had a late appeal for a penalty turned down when Sam Young was brought down in the area but apart from that there was nothing else worth talking about in a match that both teams will want to forget about as they go into their Sunday fixtures when Westbury host second placed Biddestone White Horse and Bromham entertain AFC Melksham.

Churchill Arms 1, Westbury Rangers B 7

WESTBURY Rangers B followed up their early season 3-2 victory over Churchill Arms with a comfortable 7-1 victory over Oliver Hickton's side, who have now lost five on the spin.

Rangers struck their opener after four minutes when Liam Griffiths was set free by Ashley Easton's through ball and his neat finish made it 1-0. Matty Mead doubled the advantage when he headed home number two in the 11th minute.

Churchill Arms pulled a goal back in the 19th minute when Kevin Balchin put through his own net trying to keep out a John Gale shot. Churchill Arms started to get on top for a while and Oliver Hickton twice went close to equalising but saw headers narrowly miss the target.

Rangers scored their third after 60 minutes and from then on they scored at will. Sam Young was upended in the box and Griffiths fired home the spot kick on the hour mark to make it 3-1. Five minutes later Griffiths drove home from 20 yards to complete his first ever hat-trick as he gave Rangers a three-goal cushion.

In the 67th minute Rangers made it 5-1 when Dave Jones found the net from 22 yards. Matty Mead scored his second of the game in the 80th minute with another good finish and top scorer Dale Rowland, who was getting frustrated because he couldn't join in the goal fest, finally got on the score sheet when he scored goal number seven five minutes from time.

Westbury Rangers B 0, AFC Bell 5

THE only match in Division Three saw AFC Bell move into third place behind Biddestone White Horse and Pheasant FC after they defeated Westbury Rangers B 5-0.

They returned to their Devizes base content with the victory that extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, even if the result did flatter them a little.

Rangers were left wondering what they might have done had they not had to use Gavin Palmer as a makeshift goalkeeper as, unfortunately for Palmer, despite his best efforts he was at fault for three of the Bell's goals.

Craig Townsend scored Bell's opener when he fired home a free kick. Neil Gordon then hit the post for Westbury before Nathan Moffat made it 2-0. The second period saw Jonathan Couch add number three before super substitute Gareth Evans came off the bench to score goals four and five.

Westbury Rangers B 5, Chippenham West End 1

WESTBURY Rangers B did their neighbours White Horse a favour by beating Chippenham West End Club 5-1 in the West End's penultimate match of the season.

The defeat stretched West End's winless run to 16 matches and for them to remain in the division they must beat Blue Circle in their final match in later this month.

Rangers had the game won inside the first nine minutes. Dale Rowland scored one of the quickest goals of the season when he put the Meadow Lane side ahead after just 20 seconds when he latched onto a through ball from Gary Tugwell and beat the goalkeeper from 18 yards.

Matty Mead made it 2-0 in the seventh minute with another good finish from distance. Two minutes later the West End goalkeeper produced a great stop to keep out a Mead free kick but the ball rebounded to Gary Tugwell who tapped home number three.

Dale Rowland scored his second of the game in the 44th minute when he fired home another cracker to make it 4-0. Rowland completed his hat-trick after 49 minutes when he tapped home a Ashley Easton cross.

Paul Mannings scored West End's consolation after good work from Josh Davis who could have been selfish and gone for goal himself but chose to set up Mannings for his seventh goal of the campaign.

Ross Baxter had a great game at left back for West End and had it not been for his efforts Rangers might well have scored a few more goals.

Pack Horse Rangers 1, Westbury Rangers B 1

PACK Horse Rangers and Westbury Rangers B battled out a 1-1 draw, but the efforts of the Pack Horse might count for nothing as they are under investigation for fielding an ineligible player in the game.

If found guilty they face a fine and will have the point gained from the match removed from their record.

And if Jason Cole, who is alleged to have played for the Pack Horse while being signed on for Chippenham Sports and Social Club, is found guilty he could find himself suspended by the league for the remainder of the season and possibly longer.

Phil Clark put Pack Horse into the lead with a great finish from a tight angle after good work from Simon Reid. Westbury equalised through Liam Griffiths whose finish was almost identical to Clark's effort for the hosts.

Pack Horse then lost goal scorer Clark at the interval and they did well to keep Westbury out in the second half as they battered the Pack Horse goal but couldn't find a way past the impressive Del Llewellyn, who was superb for the home team as he somehow kept out a Westbury side who dominated the second 45 minutes but could not make their superiority count and had to settle for a share of the spoils.

The Crown 3, Westbury Rangers B 2

WESTBURY Rangers B suffered a 3-2 defeat at The Crown FC thanks to a late winner, but they thought that they had done enough in the game to at least taken a point as they came from behind twice before succumbing to Jason Lucas's late winner.

Jack Fisher beat Rangers' offside trap and outpaced their defence to give the Crown the lead after five minutes. Sam Young brought Rangers level with a debut goal that he should always remember. A great ball from Rob Youens picked out Young who beat two defenders before firing home a wonderful strike after 12 minutes.

Tom Slater gave the lead back to the Crown after 55 minutes but in the 70th minute Young scored his second of the game when he headed home a Matty Mead free kick.

With the game looking set for a draw, the Crown's Jeremy Wiltshire sent a hopeful free kick into the area and it fell to the unmarked Jason Lucas who was left with a simple tap in to earn the Crown their 3-2 win.

WESTBURY-based rivals Blue Circle and Westbury Rangers B fought out an uneventful goal-less draw.

Rangers had the better of the first 45 minutes and only a sublime save from Circle goalkeeper Ryan Marks kept out a Neil Gordon header.

Marks also saved bravely at the feet of Gordon and Joe Gooding had an effort cleared off the line.

The second period was evenly matched and the cement boys had the chance to win all the points five minutes from time but a smart save from Rangers' goalkeeper Kevin Balchin denied Wayne Bristow a winner when he somehow turned his effort on to the bar.

After 90 minutes both sides thought that a draw was a fair result.
